The Island of Cyprus sits in the eastern end of the Mediterranean
Cyprus has had quite a bumpy history with being fought over by the Greeks, Phoenicians, Romans, Ottomans and more recently the British & then the Turks. The Islands Stategic position in the Mediterranean is mainly to blame or its popularity.
It is well docummented that Cyprus is the only country to have a divided capital city, Nicosia. With the north of the country being Turkish & the south being Greek.
Cyprus is a major tourist destination for northern Europeans, with the south being more popular. There are plenty of sights to keep you busy for a couple of weeks in the south.
It is only possible to enter Northern Cyprus through a boarder crossing via the United Nations no mans land for a day at Nicosia. Although I have read more recently you are sometimes allowed an overnight stay in Northern Cyprus & still able to return to the Greek Side.
As With all my travels I urge you to visit out of the high season, you get a much better feel for the place and at many attractions & sights you have the place to your self.
