The town has a very colonial feel to it, & weirdly in places still looks very British. The Nuwara Eliya, which means "city of light" town is very popular in the hot summer months with wealthy Sri Lankans escaping from the head & humidity. of the lower coastal areas.
In the town itself is a race course and gardens to admire & wander around, as well as the architecture of colonial times gone by.
The surrounding hill country is lovely, full of Tea and Rubber Plantations

I loved this place Nicola,it must have been so nice knowing your Grandfather had been here before and its so nice to see so many things named after Devon.
Love the story about the boy with the flowers and how fitting that you should travel in youir grandfather's footsteps. We too visited a tea plantation - could have been the same one! :-) Excellent page.
Wondeful tips..very entertaining. Thanks for sharing.
What a lovely page. I am so impressed with all your wonderful travels! Thank you!!
So, there's tea here? This place looks great, and those waterfalls, wow!
Enjoyable pages on Nuwara Eliya. I don't drink tea either, Nicola! Good idea about car and driver. Rubber plantation info was fascinating. Sweet story about the boy with the flowers!
This would be great, I love tea. Interesting tips and photos
Nice report Freya - let us have a cup of tea ! greets
I drink enough tea for the both of us! It looks so beautiful here! I would have certainly bought far to much tea if I was there!
