Tower for holiness calling | Menara Kudus - by Goldenboy |
May be for some, a name will do nothing. But thats not for this city. The name Kudus comes from the arabic words, Al Kuds, which means holy. As it is a tradition in Islam, before building a city or area, they built a mosque. With that, its aclaimed that Kudus founded on 1 Ramadhan 956 H, or 23 September 1549, by Ja'far Shidiq or known as Sunan Kudus. It is located 55 km from Semarang.
This city is also wellknown as the birthplace of Kretek (clove) cigarettes. |
