Angkhor

Intro

Me at one of the gates, shaped like a cobra
I don't usually say "Everyone needs to see this" about places I've been to. But Angkhor is an exception. It is incredible to see these huge temples built around 800-1000 years ago an covering 140 square miles. It tells the story of the mighty Khmer empire which I knew nothing about. I was told before going that nothing prepares you for this and I now agree.
Reliefs at the Bayon Temple

Reliefs

They stretch on and on, all with amazing detail
Monkeys can be found all over the area

Jungle

The temples are surrounded by jungle. I was told we weren't allowed to go off the paths because tigers and cobras are in the jungle. I had no problem with that:).

Thanks for sharing this relatively unknown corner of the world. I have wondered what the temples at Angkhor looked like after reading about them on wikipedia. Lucky you to have made it there, my friend!

Great page. I agree it's a place everyone should see - but that might spoil it because of the overcrowding. Maybe we should be grateful we saw it before it becomes too touristy.
