  • I love the sushi bar at the JR station. There's a wide selection of delicious sushi. It was my first time visiting a sushi bar in Japan. There's free-flow of Japanese green tea at the table (self-service). Wait to be seated and get a cup and put a tea bag and get some hot water from the tap at the table. Soya sauce and ginger pickles are at the table for your consumption too. There's also an English menu. You can request for the particular sushi that you want from the menu, and if it is not available on the conveyor belt, the "chef" in front of you will make one for you. Just take what you fancy.
Many westerners thought that sushi is all about raw fish. Give it a try, cos sushi is not only raw fish. There are some cooked fish as well. And also other ingredient too, not only fish. For example the one I had is duck sushi, which is cooked and delicious. I like the unagi sushi (cooked) too.

Favorite Dish: 1) Duck sushi... yummy, cannot find duck sushi elsewhere. This is a cooked sushi.
    2) Sashimi (raw salmon) and wide selection of raw fish sushi. There's also a raw squid and raw prawn sushi which I dare not try.
    3) The crab mayonnaise sushi is great too.

    Address: Kyoto JR station building
Directions: Near to the exit for the subway on the South side. There's a row of restaurants there. The sushi bar is very obvious from the window. It is beside an Italian restaurant.

There are many restaurants for you to choose from here. A few Italian restaurant too. It seems to me that Japanese love Italian food. Or is it I am just "too lucky" to find Italian restaurant everywhere.
A notable restaurant here is a "ice-cream" restaurant. I think they serve the world's largest ice-cream. You can see the huge plastic display in the windows. It seems like that they offer photo taking service too.

When we walked pass this noodle place looking for somewhere to eat, we saw a queue outside. So we decided to give it a try. We queued and went in when there's seats available. There are both cold and hot noodles. We tried the hot noodles. It was superb and not too expensive! It is a small and friendly place with less than 20 seats available at one time.

    Slurrrrrrppppppp...

Favorite Dish: Both cold and hot noodles are available. Taiwanese style dumpling is also avaible. We tried the hot noodles and the dumpling. Very tasty and economical meal indeed by Japanese standards.

Try tempura. Deep fried vegetables or meat with special flour dipped in a special sauce when you eat.

I have forgotten the name of the restaurant that I went to. But I know it was very crowded and it is at the JR station.
