Lake Biwako.

Otsu is just beside Lake Biwako, the biggest lake in Japan. One of the attraction in Otsu seems to be only the "Michigan". A leisure cruise with buffet meal. The tour guide told us that there used to be a theme park in Otsu, but it is now closed due to the lack of people visiting it partly due to the 1999 economic crisis throughout Asia.

Michigan Tourist Traps (1)

I think that it is a tourist trap to go on this cruise cos it is expensive (JPY5000 per person) with low quality food.... more travel advice

How interesting that a Mississippi steamboat replica is named after a different state (Michigan) where no such ships are to be found!

And the onboard show is awful - but the view across the lake is nice
