    Local Customs: Rubbish Disposal

  • Japan generally gives me an impression of a clean and litter-free country, although sometimes it is difficult to find a rubbish bin on the streets. There are many recycling bins for bottles and cans beside the numerous vending machines.
The picture shows the row of recycling/rubbish bin for the various "rubbish". So check what's in your hand first before disposing.

Local Customs: Ready for the public bath.

  • In hotels, there will be Yukatas and slippers available. If the hotel has a public bath, you are suppose to change to your Yukata and slipper. There's also a rule for tying the "string" for the Yukata. The knot should be either on the left or right, cos the other side is for the dead. Hehe.. Being unable to remember, tie the knot in the center. At least better than being stared at if you tie the knot on the wrong side!
Remember to bring your towel as well.
