Weekend in Klagenfurt (X'mas market).

by A2002 - last update: Dec 10, 2003

Hercules and the dragon in Neuer Platz.
I bought a ticket on Ryanair to Klagenfurt to visit the Christmas market, and paid £28 return.

Since this might be my last Christmas in Europe, I want to visit some Christmas markets around when I have the time and is within my budget. I have chosen Austria because I fell in love with Austria when I visited Vienna in 1998. I always wanted to visit other places in Austria.

I visited Klagenfurt for a weekend. I arrived on 29 November 2003 and left on 30 November 2003.

This picture was taken in the center of the old town of Klagenfurt - Neuer Platz, in front of the Rathaus. The interesting Christmas market was around this statue. I find the dragon really cute as it has a hat on... ready for Christmas...
Entrance to the Christmas Market.
I arrived at the small regional airport of Klagenfurt and took a bus to the old town. It was cold at about 3 degC, and it was drizzling. After I found my accommodation that suit my budget at Pension Klepp, put down my bag, I walked to the old town. I started to take pictures along the way. For this weekend, I took 95 pictures!!!

Klagenfurt is a small town with all the interesting tourist sights within walking distance, except the Wothersee. I like the atmosphere of the Christmas market here, with the smell of the mulled wine and roasted chestnuts... hmmmm....
Shopping Street.
This picture shows the pedestrianed shopping area. If I am not wrong, it is the first pedestrianed street in Austria. The streets were beautifully decorated for the Christmas. There were many shoppers and tourists doing some Christmas shopping. All the shops were nicely decorated with beautiful ornaments, lights, candles, etc. The atmosphere was fantastic for Christmas.

Two days in Klagenfurt is short. Hence I have described my trip in detail in my travelogue. Enjoy.
