Trip to Kuala Selangor years ago. On the underside of the abdomen of the firefly, it have special light organs that glows in luminous flashes. In the olden days, when there's no electricity, people used to catch firefly and put them in the bottles for light. I remember being amazed by the firefly when I was young. My dad was born in Kedah (far North of Malaysia). There are lotsa padi fields. At night, my cousins will bring me to the padi fields nearby just to watch the firefly flying freely above the padi. And occasionally, catch a few to put in my bottle.
Years ago, I went to Bukit Belimbing to watch firefly. It is a mini tourist attraction. The car gotta be parked away from the river where there's abundance of firefly. Then walk towards the small jetty along the river. As you walk along, there will be occasional firefly flying around you or just before your eyes. Amazing! Get on a small wooden boats to get an magnificient view of the luminous flashes of light of the abundance of fireflies along the Selangor River. The trees (perhaps mangroves) were lighted up just like Christmas tree.
Firefly Nature Park is easily accessible by car from Kuala Lumpur. You can go there and back on the same nite.
For more information, I found a website. http://www.firefly-selangor-msia.com/ Just makes me wonder whether the resorts will destroy the nature... |
