I've been lucky enough to visit Thailand on three separate occassions. My first visit was short and focussed on Bangkok and Ko Samet; my second trip took me north, into Chiang Mai and onto Laos; and my third trip was a sundrenched couple of weeks on the southern islands of Ko Tao and Ko Samui.

Although Bangkok houses the incomparable (and must-see) Grand Palace of the Emerald Buddah and the southern islands have perfect beaches for partying and relaxing, I think Chiang Mai is the true jewel of Thailand.
