Amiens, my adopted home in France I studied here for six months in the spring of 2000 at the University of Jules Verne. I love this city! I used to walk for hours not having any plan of where I was going or even wanted to go. While I was there I lived in the centre ville and then later moved to a dorm further north. From all my walking I think I know the downtown area like I do my own hometown. 2002: I came back from a trip to France during which I stopped by Amiens. So many changes have happened since I last was there!! The downtown has transformed beautifully! The last time I was there, they were in the process of reconstructing the area, all the streets were messed up, etc. Now, it's beautiful. Blocks of pedestrian space, tons of flowers and benches, some new fountains! The cathedral was just as beautiful as I remembered it! Except they're doing some more construction on it, which didn't make for the best pictures of the facade. But, regardless, I had a great time and even ran into one of my friends there, unexpectedly! |
