The City of Light, Paris, France - Paris

I love France. I love Paris even more. On my previous trips when I lived in France in 2000 every time I went to Paris it was with tourists or my family that wanted me to be their tour guide. I ended up always going to the same tourist attractions, museums, and churches. It was fun and always beautiful, but I always say that that way you see more of the tourists than you do the city. In fact, it seems sometimes that Paris is more American than French, due to the amount of tourists!

On this last trip I chucked all the books, didn't go near a tourist attraction and just took the metro downtown to the Ile de la cite and began to wander. As I was there I found a great little museum commemorating the Jews who were killed during the Holocaust. I had never seen anything on this museum, no one has ever suggested it or even told me it existed! Make sure to check out my travelogue on it so that you can make sure not to miss it on your next trip. (It's small, but worth it.)

I walked all around the left bank, starting in the Latin quarter and moving my way up towards the Pantheon and then on to all the churches of St. Etienne, St. Germain de Pres, St. Severin, and St. Sulpice. All of them beautiful and unique in their own rights.

The moral of this story, step out of the box. Explore. Leave your hostel without a map. You'll find many more things Parisian if you do so.
