Local Customs: Spitting, coughing, sneezing...

    • Certain types of behaviour are culturally acceptable in some countries, but care should be taken when coughing and sneezing in public that the nose and mouth are covered...especially on public transport where people are crammed into a tight space. Spitting in public is also a no-no.

    • The biggest moan Londoners have about tourists is that they carry big bags on their back which they use to knock people over, travel on the tubes duing the rush hour and stop dead in the street! Yes, this is petty, but remember that Londoners hate disruption to their everyday lives! Most natives in Central London will have somewhere to get in a hurry! If they snap at you, it's not personal, they are just stressed out. Fend off the whingers by observing the code of etiquette on the website dedicated to the London Underground, www.thetube.com

    • Londoners moan about their city as a hobby...never agree with them! Only we are allowed to say bad things about our city and will suddenly get a surge of affection for the very place we've been whinging about the second that anyone who isn't a Londoner says something negative! Put it down to our eccentricity! :)
