Bordeaux...a city to fall slowly in love with.

by JulesH - last update: Jul 12, 2005

Small and charming, beautiful and captivating.

Bordeaux is a charming river town in the famous wine region of the same name. My boyfriend Rob is working here for two months, so I will be visiting periodically over the next few weeks. My first trip here was a long weekend to celebrate my birthday and I wanted to see as much of the town and surrounding areas as possible. You will need a car to explore the wine region with any degree of freedom, although there are organised coach tours. Within the town you can take buses or trams with ease, and the centre is flat and easily navigated on foot. In addition you can hire a bike, roller blades or even a skateboard at Les Quais along the river, so there are plenty of ways to get around. Bikes seem to feel they have priority over pedestrians, even when they are riding on the pavement, so keep an eye out for them. On only my second visit I am already wishing that I could have stayed longer.

Pros:"small and compact, beautiful weather, great wine"
Cons:"brown river, crazy bikers"
In A Nutshell:"More than just a wine region"
