Key West was a very unexpected find for me. At the southernmost island of the United States, just on the verge of the tropics, it houses an atmosphere just like the one I remember from Lake George in up-state New York. It is a beautiful, warm, relaxed place where the locals and tourists blend to have fun in the streets at night. I felt perfectly comfortable there whether I was dressed up in my best clothes to go bar hopping at night, or wearing nothing but a towel, bikini, and flip flops right on the main street (Duval Street) when coming back from snorkeling. Oddities are so commonplace here that it feels like a whole different dimension, for me at least, when coming from such a fast paced and goal oriented state like New Jersey. When coming to Key West, I just have one point of advice to all of you. Keep your eyes peeled. On this tiny island the locals and the tourists alike have crammed so many intricate little details and surprises, that you're bound to notice something astonishing and unexpected everywhere you look! |
