Oswiecim is best known for Auschwitz I, the nazi concentration camp. It is however, a city known for its chemical industry, and that is in fact why the nazis picked it as the location of their extermination camps - it had extensive railroad connections to the rest of the country which enabled them to operate their camps efficiently. If you look close, you can see the gate here that says "Work makes you free." |

Toshioohsako Thu Jul 3, 2008 21:11 UTC Yes, I came here last November from Krakow. It was hard moment for me but I had opportunity to reflect over what happened here. It was a very cold day. It was good for me to have visited this place. | globetrott Sat May 10, 2003 02:55 UTC a great and touching page - it is terrible to see, what human(?) brain is able to plan and do against others | morgane1692 Thu Mar 6, 2003 05:47 UTC moving and accurate views and thoughts on this place where words just aren't enough...the books and movies go far in telling the story, but to walk here and see for oneself, that stays with you forever... | matcrazy1 Fri Feb 7, 2003 05:34 UTC Great page on a sad place - the place to visit and remember! |
