| Landshut fortress over Old Town |
Landshut is a real secret. Located only 1 hour north of Munich, it offers one of the most beautiful, historic and romantic Old Towns that I have ever seen.
Some places like Rothenburg or Salzburg, also small towns, are overcrowded with tourists, but Landshut is one of those cities which everyone loves (I had heard many good things) but which, for whatever reason, does not get marketed so well. It really surprises me. All I can say is that Landshut (pronounced "Lands-Hoot") is such an overlooked destination and I don't really understand this, but this definately has many benefits, too :)
There are 60,000 people living in Landshut, many of them university students.
Here are some photos! Have a look. The official website is www.landshut.de

Keafolk Thu Aug 31, 2006 13:11 UTC Thanks for alerting us to Landshut, it looks just like the kind of place to relax for a few days instead of Rothburg. Know a cheap place to stay? The youth hostel seems pretty geared to young. Any good Landshut stopovers? | tiger9090a Thu Apr 28, 2005 18:17 UTC Looks neat 'n nice | Sjalen Wed Nov 10, 2004 15:30 UTC Our guidebook said it was worth stopping and if we'd have seen something from the very uninspiring train station, we might have done. Next time! You know I've only just started on Bavaria - I knew there were things to discover there! ;))) |
