  • Stephansdom at Stephansplatz. This is a huge and impressive Gothic church, located at the central square of Vienna, the Stephansplatz. A nickname of the Stephansdom is "Steffel". It is also featured on one of the Austrian Euro coins.

  • Emperor Franz Joseph's grand urban renewal made Vienna a fairy tale city of white boulevards flanked by grand neo-gothic and neo-baroque buildings.

So many great buildings, maybe the grandest boulevard in Europe.

  • Vienna offers beautiful gardens, but no large park in the center.
The Stadtpark park was opened in 1862 and is embellished by water courses and a small lake.

Among the numerous monuments the golden statue of Johann Strauss is the most photographed.

  • Five centuries of global history were written in the Hofburg.
The Schweizerhof is the heart of the Hofburg and dates from the 13th century.

The palace still plays a political role, for it houses the offices of the Austrian President. The Neue Burg (New Castle) (1871-1913) contains the Ephesos Museum , the Museum for Völkerkunde (Museum of Folklore) , furthermore Europe’s most wide-ranging collection of weapons and a collection of musical instruments.

  • Since its thorough restoration, this castle has been breaking all attendance records. The Unteren Belvedere (lower Belvedere) , rather sober-looking, was completed in 1716 as the residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy, Austrian history’s most successful general. His art collection was housed here also. At present one can admire baroque art there. The magnificent Oberes Belvedere (upper Belvedere) was intended to be a State Palace and was fitted out by Emperor Joseph II as the imperial portrait gallery.
Here you can now look at art from the 19th and 20th centuries displayed in the Österreichische Galerie.

  • The Schönbrunn palace in the outskirts of Vienna is a beautiful palace. Together with Munich's Nymphenburg palace, it is my favorite piece of royal architecture in Europe.

I guess you’re paying for the name and the flair, not the coffee. These traditional cafés are all near the opera house, but the singers prefer Starbucks because it is non-smoking.
