We only spent a night in Lodz as we had to spend most of the trip in the minivan that we had hired, travelling to and from Berlin
Unfortunately as it had German plates the locals took a dislike to it and broke into it and out of all the bags to pick, they decided to steal mine!
Fortunately I had my most valuable things, money, camera, passport and match ticket, on me in my trusty rucksack and so therefore still managed to make the match.
Unfortunately I had to spend most of the time after the game talking to the police instead of drinking polish beer.
My Polish is non existent and so many thanks to the hotel staff who managed just about to translate for me when I was talking to the police. The police I spoke to didn’t even have a car and when they asked me to come down to the police station so that they could fill out all the necessary insurance form we had to get a taxi and I had to pay the fare...cheek! |

Manchester United played LKS Lodz in the ??? Stadium on 26 August 1998. We drew 0-0. |
