Visiting the backyard!

When living in England it is easy to neglect the treasures that are close by. So this page will gradually build as the weekends go by. A mixture of historic places and things that I come across as I go.

London is a great place to visit time and time again. It has so many different features, which means that it’s ideal to nip in and out of depending on your mood of the day.

One Day Trip
If you are only in town for one day then try out the following

Start at the Tower of London – 2 hours
Head to the London Eye for a pre booked flight – 2 hours
Walk across the river Thames at Westminster Bridge, taking in Big Ben, The houses of Parliament and around the corner Westminster Abbey.

Have lunch around Trafalgar Square, maybe in one of the old pubs which surround the area.

Take the tube to Green Park and take a look at Buckingham Palace.

Visit the Soames museum.

Either then take in Leicester Square and head for Cafe Fish or China town for dinner.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Plenty of brilliant sights - always somewhere different to try out
  • Cons:It can be a tad expensive...to say the least

Yes, a great site to know about. I find www.chowhound.com very helpful, too. So many of the regular posters are wonderful foodies and really know where to eat in all price ranges. I only have 256 places left to try. :-)

Hi Vic, Lovely tour of London. No shopping tips? It seems I have much to learn... What are Madagascan crevettes, whelks, cockles & winkles? ~Elaine~

I agree, the "Gherkin" is a nice addition to the skyline. Lucky you to live so close to my favourite city. :) Nice pics.
