Nantes is the capital of the west of France.
It rained for most the time on my last trip there, but we still managed to try and explore the place. The highlight being the discovery of the great Carnivore restaurant!
We spent the evening in the many bars in town and usually ended up in a Karaoke bar. Not me singing I hasten to add, although I do step up to the mike on occasions to ruin a good Elvis song. The French were singing their hearts out, although we were searching for the cheese to put in our ears! |
| | World Cup 1998 - Brazil v Japan My first trip to Nantes was during the World Cup of 1998. We drove all the way from Marseille to try and get tickets for the Brazil v Japan match. It took us all day to get there in the minibus, even though we thought that we had set off at a reasonably early time. We got stuck on the minor roads of France which was a long, long route.
When we eventually arrived the tickets were bring sold outside at an exorbitant price, even twenty minutes after kick off. So we decided to watch the game in one of the many bars in the town centre. This was a great idea as the main high street had been turned into a Brazilian beach just for the occasion. Great fun! |
Nantes Atlantique My second visit to Nantes was for a two night trip for the UEFA Champions League.
Manchester United played Nantes Atlantique in the Stade De La Beaujoire on 20 February 2002. We drew 1-1 in the group match, thanks to a last minute penalty from RVN. | | | Nantes Atlantique v Manchester United |
