Shanghai - my favorite city!!

I started building my Shanghai VT page since 2001. But I am afraid my speed of updating this page is a lot slower than this city's development! When I look back to some of the stuff I wrote years ago.. I realized quite a lot of them are already out-dated! That's bad, isn't it - if these are supposed to be tips for people to follow when they go visit!! Well.. I will try my best to update my Shanghai page now!! Just be patient with me!
Yan'an Rd in PuXi

PuXi (West to Yang'zi River)

Shanghai is divided into Puxi and Pudong two areas. The west side of the Yangzi river is Puxi while the east side is Pudong.

Puxi has very rich history and is considered as where the main shanghai area is. You can trace the history in Puxi by exploring so many of the old buildings that still exist today, such as the French Concession, the Bund, etc. Traffic is a lot heavier here. Streets are more crowded as well. Tons of great restaurants and bars, and of course shopping malls as well. I personally think that Puxi is the hip side of Shanghai.

Pudong (East to the Yangzi River)

Pudong is a newer area that got developed during the last two decades. Local shanghainese used to say how they rather want a bed in Puxi instead of a house in Pudong. That shows how Pudong used to be just like the countryside to the big city. However, that has been changed nowadays. Pudong has developed quickly into China's financial center - such as Lujiazui. Skyscrapers have been coming out one after another each year. Compared to Puxi, Pudong has wider roads, newer buildings and bigger open space. A lot of residential houses (not apartments) are also located in Pudong, such as Jinqiao area, Century park area, Zhangjiang High Tech area and Kangqiao area, etc. It is more of a family and kids friendly area compared to Puxi.

Thanks for making the visit to Shangai easier with the good photos and off the beaten track tips. I always like to know there is a park where I can get a little quiet.
