I visited NYC twice, getting there by car on both occasions. I will never forget the view of Lower Manhattan when arriving in the city via the New Jersey Turnpike, with the lights of the city already shining before dusk - and with the wonderful Twin Towers, of course.

The first time was in February 1997, when the temperature was around freezing or under. Awful... cold, humid, impossible to walk out on the streets, no sun, overcast skies, no leaves, no flowers...

Then 2 1/2 years later I was in Florida, planning a drive to NYC in a few days, and then, while driving to Key West I heard about this Hurricane Floyd on the radio - so, after a short visit to the Keys, my cousin and I returned to Miami and anticipated our journey to NY, so as to run away from the storm ASAP...

Only the hurricane made a northerly turn and followed us all the way to NY, where it became a "tropical storm" and spoiled 3 out of 5 days of my visit to the Big Apple. With so much rain, we couldn't do much. But here's what I can say...
