Getting TO/AROUND: There are small advertisements on the Classified section of the LA Times, offering packages to Hawaii. There are excellent prices, especially if you're traveling with a group of friends who can share a room. We got airfare, accomodation and car-rental for a real bargain.

We went on a Hawaiian Airlines DC-10, it took just a little over 5:30hs to get there and the view of the city right before landing was just fantastic. That, plus a good hotel and a big car, for about $350 p/p... pretty good, I believe.

Getting TO/AROUND: Buses are useful only between Waikiki and Downtown. It's a total waste of money to go to Oahu and not be able to drive up and down the island... it's very big and you might want to explore it by yourself at your own pace.

People seem to be against renting cars (I discussed this in the forum at the time when I joined VT, about Hawaii, San Francisco, etc.), but this is a place where a car will diversify the landscape and enrich your day like almost nowhere else.
