  • Not to be missed: the view of the 12 avenues which converge at the Place de l´Étoile, the largest of which is the Champs-Élysées.
Another tough climb, but well worth it.

  • The next best thing to seeing Paris from a helicopter. From the open deck on top of the 60-story building it's possible to see all of Paris. The Parisian hate the building, and joke that it's the best place to see Paris from above, exactly because it's the only place in town where the building itself can't be seen (and it has a great view of the Eiffel Tower). It's an ugly, 1970's tower, rising high from the beautiful low apartment buildings in Montparnasse.
But there's a great photo exposition of old Paris there, and a restaurant with a wonderful name: Le Ciel de Paris.

  • The Opera, not a place that everybody remembers to visit in Paris. Few people go there, and it's such a wonder.

Honestly, I believe it's the most beautiful building I have ever been in. Unlike the kitsch/colorful Château de Versailles, this is actually a highly good-taste architectural masterpiece. The building is from the late 19th century, the so-called "Belle Époque", and I'd say it's art-nouveau's greatest achievement.

On the ceiling, there's a beautiful painting by Marc Chagall.

    The visit costs 6 EURO.

  • I won't be able to stress this enough: visit this museum!! It's FREE and a must for anyone who likes Paris: it's a museum about the city itself, its history, and there are to be found objects, furniture, entire rooms, and my favorite, paintings of Paris throughout the centuries. Do not think it's a secondary kind of attraction and that if you've seen the Louvre, it's enough, because this place is amazing.

    Address: Le Marais
Directions: Just go for a walk in the Marais, see the Place des Voges, continue walking and after some time you'll probably run across the Carnavalet.

Musée du Moyen Age (Middle Ages) - Musée de Cluny: Musée de Cluny

  • The Cluny is actually called Musée du Moyen Age, the Middle-Ages Museum. It's compact but not small, and very cool. Outside there's one of the few Roman ruins in Paris, the baths of Lutecia, and the museum's collection is simply great. The Woman with the Unicorn room is my favorite part... along with this cool little demon on the picture!!

    Address: Boulevard St-Michel
Directions: Where Boulevard Saint-Michel meets Boulevard Saint-Germain... couldn't be easier. Metro Cluny-Sorbonne (closer) or Saint-Michel (not far at all).

Notre Dame de Paris: Notre Dame Cathedral

  • It took nearly two hundred years to build this gothic and super-decorated cathedral. Other than its incredibly beautiful architecture, it offers a little museum inside (for a small fee) where among other things it's possible to see tunics worn by clerics in the Middle Ages, or very old books from the same period.
It's also possible (and advisable) to climb its narrow stairs and take an upclose look on the beautiful and famous gargoyles of Notre Dame. There's also a huge bell up there.
The views of the city are great from the cathedral, but the stairs are long and narrow, barely fitting one person at a time...

  • Château de Versailles and its gardens
Royal residence, the most sumptuous building in Europe... and I guess in the world.
I remember hearing a tour guide close to me say that from the central window, at the king's room, Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette stood by the balcony, seeing the crowd invade the palace. It was quite a feeling to stand there, at the very same place, imagining the situation.

  • The Sainte-Chapelle is located inside the Palais de Justice, it's small, but still one of the most fantastic tourist attractions in Paris. Its many tall colored-glass mosaics tell Bible stories and offer a bright, colorful spectacle in sunlight. So, it's better to be visited on a sunny day. A combo ticket allows you to visit the Conciergerie as well.

  • On my first visit to Paris I took a cab from Gare de Lyon, coming from Genève, and the driver (first in a series of numerous friendly French people) would introduce us to a few sites in Paris along the way to our hotel in the Étoile area. We passed by the Louvre on the opposite bank of the Seine, and it struck me just how huge it was. I think it's about half a kilometer long, no kidding. Then I said 'C'est immense' and the cab driver kindly corrected 'Vous voulez dire 'enorme''.
So, it's really big and full of great works of art of many different periods. It's simply impossible to see it all, and even those who are not so much into plastic arts will find there enough entertainment to fill an entire day.

  • Parc de la Villete - Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie
(or Euro-EpcotCenter as my sister and I call it)
Nice science museum. Inside the mirrored-round (La Géode) there is an IMAX theater with cool movies.

The worst hotel. It isn'tas shown on photos and video. Cubicle, smelly rooms, rude staff. Front desk was not allowed to call a shuttle to airport because they only sell Air France bus. Stay in somewhere else to avoid wasting your money
