This is my favorite among the 8 hotels I've stayed in Paris. Excellent location, a short walk from the Champs-Élysées and the Arc de Triomphe, balcony view of the Arc.

Best Western Primotel Empire

Unique Qualities: The only problem was that the bathroom door was transparent, which can be a problem if you're traveling with your sister!
And the room was triangular.
Close to the Champs-Elysées, closer to Faubourg St.-Honoré and Ternes (excellent area), a short walk to the subway, comfortable and with a nice staff.

There are two hotels in one here; either the section with an elevator and nicer rooms, or the other regular ones. I've stayed in both, and here we did not suffer with lack of space, which is such an advantage for Paris. New, modern, clean rooms. Ask for a quiet one not facing Bd. du Montparnasse.

Unique Qualities: Surrounded by restaurants, shops at rue de Rennes and a mall with Galleries Lafayette across the street, close to La Poste (the post-office) and with a subway entrance right in front of the hotel's door (Montparnasse Bienvenüe, lines 12, 4, 13 and 6), which can be very convenient. And if you read The Day of the Jackal, be aware that the hotel lies in that Place du 18 Juin, so you'll probably stay at the same room where the Jackal tried to shoot De Gaulle!!

The elevator must be there by now! A quiet street, it's true, always silent and safe - you won't mind walking there from the Tuileries metro station even after midnight... Small rooms, but a great choice for he who travels alone and is budget-minded. No A/C though...

Unique Qualities: Internet place in the lobby and all the advantages of being in the 1er Arrondissement, near Rue de Rivoli, the Louvre, Place Vendôme... and for such a good price!

This has to be the cheapest place I stayed in Paris, not without some fights with a rude "lady" who works there in the morning... but forget her - her husband and the thin guy who works the night shift are very kind. Only stay there if you're alone and don't want to pay more than about €55 - 70. The rooms are very small, but new and clean; they have one of those Parisian elevators where you cannot fit in if you're carrying a small backpack, but you can always send your luggage, run up the stairs, go back down, and do it again a few more times!!

Unique Qualities: Practically ON the Grands-Boulevards, very near the Opera Garnier and the two main department stores in town... plus a great number of restaurants around, safe and filled with people day and night. Excellent price/benefit.

Directions: From the Place de l'Opéra, walk the Boulevard des Italians some 50 meters and take the second left (rue du Helder): the hotel will be just a couple of steps from the Grands-Boulevards themselves!
