Favorite Thing: The Eiffel Tower - many things to do there, other than appreciate the view over the most beautiful city in the world. The first level has a small museum of the monument's history, and at the top there's a nice wax model of Monsieur Eiffel. Look out for other wax statues in the elevators or other unexpected places. And there are the restaurants.

Favorite Thing: The most famous avenue in the world stretches from Place de la Concorde to the Arc du Triomphe. There are cafés, restaurants, movie-theathers, French cabarets and all kinds of good shops. Virgin, FNAC, a huge Sephora and the very useful Office de Tourisme de Paris are there. And lots, lots of tourists...

Favorite Thing: The Hotel de Ville is one of the most beautiful buildings in Paris, and the square in front of it is the site for numerous events - World Cup matches on a big screen, ice rink in winter, and so on. At night, the lights make it look even better. On important dates, the building is decorated with French flags, or why not, American ones on the 4th of July! And they say the French are hostile towards Americans...

Fondest Memory: Those canons of water in the Trocadéro gardens, I only saw them working once, just before I took this picture. After 10 minutes waiting for the sun to brighten my photo, when the clouds finally cleared, they turned the water off! Maybe next time then, next summer, assuming they only do that once a year or when a blue moon is over Paris.

Favorite Thing: Maybe one of the reasons for everybody to think Paris is such a beautiful city is the fact that its characteristic buildings are so extravagant that they could be a section of a palace. In the past, before they were divided in separated apartments, people owned the entire buildings. They lived in what was called a "hotel particulier". Of course there were no elevators, which were later introduced and forced to fit wherever possible, and that explains why today they are so small and scary in Paris.

Favorite Thing: As if the greatest paintings in the world weren't enough, we go to a place like the Musée d'Orsay and find beauty even where we don't expect it.

Favorite Thing: Paris is no more lit-up than any regular big city, except when the Bateaux-Mouches sail near its famous riverfront landmarks... the Lights of the Illuminism are the ones responsible for the city's nickname. For crying out loud.

aterceironeto Thu Jul 10, 2008 03:32 UTC The worst hotel. It isn'tas shown on photos and video. Cubicle, smelly rooms, rude staff. Front desk was not allowed to call a shuttle to airport because they only sell Air France bus. Stay in somewhere else to avoid wasting your money | Ipanema_Princess Mon Jun 27, 2005 22:39 UTC Really nice page on Paris. So many things I still have to see in my own city ! I love the galleries too. Parabens ! | knightrider2 Thu May 19, 2005 04:25 UTC You have some great restaurant tips. They will come in handy for my upcoming Paris trip. | morgane1692 Tue Jan 18, 2005 13:56 UTC Aaaaah, grey skies in Paris beat sunny skies anywhere else, don't they?! We need to revisit this city. One of these eons...;-) |
