San Francisco & the Bay Bridge
I have been out to the bay area and San Francisco on several occasions, but always for work (in fact for the past three companies that I have worked for). Although business trips can be a lot of fun, they usually require compromise as to where to go, what to do, where to eat, etc with your co-workers. Regardless, I have always enjoyed San Francisco and have seen many changes in the city over the past five to seven years (Embarcadero, Union Square)...
Embarcadero under construction...
I have been in San Fran on two separate occasions around the Christmas holidays and I think it is perhaps the best time to go. The weather is pleasant, the shopping is great and the city is all decorated.

I took the picture to the right one night back in December 1999 of Embarcadero Center when it was still under construction. You can also see the Ferry Terminal Building and the Bay Bridge in the background. It's a great view from the Embarcadero Hyatt.
My last trip to San Francisco (August 2002) was primarily for some wine tasting...er...drinking...at the 2002 Silver Oak release up in Alexander Valley. I headed out to SF a little earlier than the friends I was meeting just to hang around the city. It was the first non-business related trip that I had made to the area. So, I was able to see/do/experience some of the less-touristy aspects of the city. You know, things you want to do, not things the other three or four people that you have to travel with want to do...

Pros:"Interesting and diverse city with a great cultural and historical past!"
Cons:"The city suffers from the burden of a large homeless population, streets often smell of urine."
