Bonaire, moments after the "green" flash...
Bonaire is a destination that I had dreamed about since I first became a certified scuba diver at the sprightly age of twelve. All the dive magazines back then raved about the clam waters on the leeward side of the island, the small desert island of Klein Bonaire and even the town pier….all rich in coral and aquatic sea life. Present day dive magazines rave about Bonaire’s effort to protect their reefs in addition to the coral and aquatic life underwater. So, I felt confident that the diving would be good…
Bonaire, N.A.
Throughout September 2003, I had been working in Venezuela and was anxious to get to a place with better beers and less trash, someplace clean….clean air, clean streets, clean water, clean, clean, clean…..so I had planned to stop over in the Netherlands Antilles on my way back to the States.

I knew I couldn’t go wrong with the Dutch, and besides, I had a long-standing dream to realize. With that I chose Bonaire as my first destination and declared that October 2003 would finally see me realize my dreams of diving off that island. It had been nearly, well, let’s not worry about the number of years that it took me to get there, lets just say it was more than a decade (or two). Needless to say, I was very excited to be headed to Bonaire.

Ah yes! The green flash. Just when you expect the entire horizon to turn green you see this little 'blip' where the sun just was. But cool nonetheless... Always good to see a page on Bonaire that covers the places that I didn't get to experience.
