I remember watching a documentary about the Algarve in the 1970s and being so much impressed with the solemn beauty of its coastline. It took me 25 years or so to finally make it there and some of the coast area (especially between Faro and Albufeira) is now built up extensively. The West Coast, however, - starting from around Lagos - still has a lot of awe inspiring scenery. You can often travel for miles without encountering another car. Also don’t forget to venture into the mountain area around Monchique for some stunning views and remote isolated spots. |

| | If you are staying in one of the more built up areas try and stay in or near the Sheraton Pinecliffs (on the outskirts of Albufeira) as its beaches and cliffs are truly amazing. |
