Favorite thing: This is a typical Maltese fisherman’s boat, a “luzzu”, that can be seen all over the island, but especially all over Marsaxlokk. All of these boats display a certain amount of set colours. The arrangement of these colours determines the owner of the boat.

Note the Egyptian Eye of Osiris at the front. Most of these boats have them. Though Malta is a very Catholic island, these good luck symbols to ward off evil spirits demonstrate how much Maltese customs were influenced by all the various sea faring nations that visited its shores throughout the centuries.

When looking at these boats from the front it even appears as if they are “staring” at you.
