Drink lots of water when walking around Rome, especially in the very hot summer months. Do as we did in order to save some money: Buy one bottle of mineral water and – when finished – keep on refilling it at some of the numerous fountains that you can find all over Rome. The water from these is very cool and refreshing.

When you have refreshments from some of the bars, please remember that the area where you’re situated generally determines how much you will be charged: It’s cheapest if you stand at the counter, a bit more expensive when sitting at a table and is at its dearest when you sit outside! Bar charges in Rome can vary from dirt cheap to complete rip off, but if you follow these rules you should have a very inexpensive time.
