Sheffield is the home of the "Full Monty". If you are visiting and have not seen the film I recommend that you hire the video. I think it gives a good impression of what it's like for some people living in and around Sheffield. The area used to be thriving industrially, but a lot of the steel works and mining jobs have gone and been replaced with low paid shop work. It's been a depressed area for some time. It seems that vast steps are now being taken to put this right and there is a lot of building work and investment going into the city. By the end of this year the city centre will look quite beautiful in areas. Building work is now completed on a massive indoor winter garden, a lovely place to take a break if the weather is sunny but showery or windy. |
