  • Tip Rating:
  • Batu Caves. The stairs are fairly easy to climb but beware of the monkeys running up and down the railings (note: be care with plastic bags, a monkey followed me a little to long as I descended, he thought I had food). The limestone surroundings are hmm… a site.
There is no admission fee (which was heaven for me after spending the summer in Kyoto visiting temples with fees that add up very quickly).

Directions: There are many spots to catch the bus (35 min. ride) to Batu Caves. I got on at a bank near the old wet market – Central Market. The bus ride was not very interesting though the people riding the bus

  • Tip Rating:
  • Little India. The atmosphere is great and the people are very friendly for city Malaysian standards. Barginning is a must, no matter the number of stairs you climbed to get to the shop.
Besides the mosque and great sari shops there are many sidewalk shops, selling everything from Bollywood videos to hair loss remedies.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Night Market. We found a “sidewalk café” next to the Swiss Inn (I’m being generous, b/c our table was in the street with cars passing less than 3 inches from the back of my chair – no exaggeration here). Our table full of women, was soon joined by a Spanish Frenchman (not a type-o), a guy from Yemen, and a student from Africa.
Great for shopping, people watching, and eating.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Petronas Towers and KL Tower. I know very touristy but the views of the city are nice. I also got lucky and had the chance to watch a skydiving competition off of the twin towers.
