  • Tip Rating:
  • Vung Tau is a beach resort on the South China Sea coast and has been a favorite - though hardly picturesque - getaway destination for Ho Chi Minh residents. Vung Tau is a party town, full of sun, sand, surf, good food, beer and even a disco or two. It is 128km (80mi) south-east of Ho Chi Minh City, and can be reached by bus or - better - hydrofoil from central Ho Chi Minh.

  • Ho Chi Minh is indeed a fabulous walking city! I've managed to walk almost every District Saigon has to offer with the exception of District 4 only because friends tell me that it is unsafe and advised me not to do so. Armed with my bottle of water and trusty all-purpose map, I head out without having a particular place to go taking in the life of an everyday local having no worries for if I got lost, I hailed a taxi!

I've spent a great amount of time in and around the touristy areas such as District 1, Pham Ngu Lao, and Chinatown but I also have hands on experience of lesser known Districts such as 11, 7, Phu Nhuan, Go Vap, Tan Binh, etc where it was almost unheard of to see a Westerner. IMO, one can really mingle and get the real feel of Vietnamese life should they tackle the possiblity of aimless wondering!

  • In the Thu Duc District, about 10 kilometers from downtown HCM, the Saigon Waterpark is a refreshing getaway from the heat, dust and traffic that comes with Asian tropical destinations. The park offers 6 slides from a height of 15m and a wave pool that produces waves a meter high. Entrance fee requires 70,000vnd or 4.50usd.

You've got some great pictures there! Great profile of Ho Chi Minh. I just moved here myself for a few months and it gave me some good insights. Thanks
