A strong stomach is needed for the consumption of insects in which Thais from Northeast Thailand love. Protein rich fried grasshoppers, locusts and many other insects prove to be a simple refreshing change from your, oh, so common food groups. Find them at street stalls and vendors pushing small carts around. You can even find them conveniently packed in a can. Yum! Personally, I’ve only tried the leg of a grasshopper. It was so crunchy and uhhh…juicy….and.…uhhh….needless to say, it was an experience I’ll never forget.

Food in Bangkok is plentiful. Take a walk around the town and you’ll know. Street stalls are abundant and sell a distinct and savory taste that will most certainly please your taste buds. Feel like Chinese? Head over to Chinatown to try food that cannot to be duplicated in your own country. Thai dishes can be pungent and spicy, hence the title of this page, with a lot of garlic and chilies used. Make sure you inform the server beforehand if you are not a spice maniac. First time ever eating Thai food, for me, was in Bangkok. The pineapple fried rice just blew my mind even though I am not a fan of pineapple.

Drinking in Thailand can be expensive compared to other related activities. Being a loyal Heineken drinker, I never tried anything other than a bottle of Singha which wasn’t very Heinekenish but nevertheless, no one can say, “You didn’t try the local brand??” Prices vary from bar to bar, stall to stall and are roughly in the 100-150 Baht range.

For those who can't quite get use to Thai food (you really don't know what you're missing), Macdonalds can be found almost everywhere you go. I've tried it once because I was craving but to my disappointment, it doesn't taste anything like home so prepare yourself.
