The 100 acre wood!

A large part of Aldenham Country park has been set aside to recreate the 100 acre wood from the stories about Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh. The original wood is actually in Sussex, but this park is fabulous for children, as it is true to the maps that you will find in the front of the old Winnie the Pooh books. Even the trees are the same!

It takes around half an hour to walk around the meadow if you want to look at everything properly, but we took the kids from school and they were so excited that they would have run around it in 30 seconds flat!

The park has signs explaining just what each part is, for example Roo's sandy place, Pooh's thotful spot...

The place is lovely and in no way commercial - you wont find anyone dressed up in a bear costume, which adds to the mystery.

You will even find the bridge across the stream from where you can play Pooh sticks, and the stepping stones to cross the 'swirls and eddies'.

As well as the 100 acre wood, there is a rare breed farm and an adventure playground. You can also walk around the lake.

To get to the park either drive to Borehamwood, and look at the map (sorry I do not know the address but will try tp find out). Alternatively take the Thameslink train to Elstree and Borehamwood, and take a taxi to the park.
