While Southern Greece has a more Middle Eastern flair to it, Northern Greece definitely is more European. This is especially true in Thessalonica; where much like Milan, fashion is king! Everyone in this city looks great – suave and sophisticated, dressed to kill in black. Here, as in so many places in Greece, you’ll find spectacular sunsets from the parapets of the Byzantine White Tower. Explore the cities churches, some of the biggest in Greek Orthodoxy – and quite beautiful. The rest of northern Greece is unique in its own right. European and Balkan feelings intermix. The people are wonderfully charming and beautiful. The food here is also unique from southern Greece. This is the land of the true Macedonia; and of Philip II and Alexander the Great. You can also explore the wilderness of Mount Olympos (a series of mountains, rather than one peak). It can get chilly here, so pack warm clothes. Tourists to Greece often focus on the islands, but missing Northern Greece cuts out a large part of what Greece is all about.
