Despite all warnings, I went to Sri Lanka last December during the parliament elections. we had some incommodities such as curfew for two days, but actually we never felt like we where in danger, and exprecienced the locals as very friendly and helpful.I have to admit that we didn't visit Colombo because it there were riots there at the time. We had the chance to talk with people about the political climate in Sri Lanka which gave us a deeper insight into this beautiful country and its current problems. I really encourage everyone who is in doubt to visit Sri Lanka because of the politcal situation that unless you go to the Northern parts and use your common sense it really isn't a problem. |
