Local Customs: Korunovačné Slávnosti - Coronation Celebration

Our visit coincided with the Korunovačné Slávnosti, a festival celebrating the coronation of Matthias 2. We heard this before we saw it. When we were looking out from Michael tower we could hear drums in the distance and we then saw the coronation parade enter the town under the gate. The members of the parade were dressed in 18th (?!) Century clothing and there was one very well-dressed guy on horseback who might have been playing the King. The parade continued through the old town and we came across it again when we were having a coffee on Venturska. It certainly drew the crowds onto the streets. Bratislava was absolutely crowded that Sunday afternoon.
