Patio Hostel

  • Our hostel was like a prison camp in its attention to detail. You could not check in until 1pm. A strict check out was at 10am in the morning - after this time you would automatically lose your key 10Euro/300SKK deposit. There was a no-alcohol, no parties-in-rooms and no-throwing-things-out-of-windows (?!) policy. I prefer places that treat you as an adult.

We didn't see our room until 6pm in the evening as we had checked in before 1pm but we still had to pay the full amount at check-in. When we did eventually see our room it was very disappointing. We had two twin beds, and that was it. It was almost bare with little furniture, and a cover over the window that was falling to pieces. Our shower and toilet was shared with a good number of others. And to make things worse when we woke the next morning we covered in bed bites.

On the upside there was free internet, free laundry and a common room. And the staff were very friendly. The hostel was also in a good location, near the Tesco supermarket and about 5 minutes walk from the heart of the old town. They also offered small discounts at nearby restaurants and bars. There are over 100 beds in the hostel though most of these are in dormitory rooms.

Overall I was disappointed with this place. Patio hostel was probably the worst place we stayed in during our trip to Slovakia. It was also the most expensive at 1960 Sk per night. However, finding something better for the same price can be difficult in Bratislava, especially near the Old Town.
