Spisske Podhradie

Spisske Podhradie is a small town in Eastern Slovakia about halfway along the road between Poprad and Presov. The town is very popular with travellers in the region as it contains one of Slovakia's outstanding sights - Spis Castle.

This spectacular, ruined castle lies on a steep hill overlooking the town. It's visible from a great distance away and it looks great both upclose and from afar. You can't fail to be impressed the first time you see it.

Also worth exploring is Spisska Kapitula, a former religious settlement on the other side of the town. There's not too much to see in the town itself but you'll need at least a half-day here to enjoy the Castle and Kapitula.

It's an area that we still need to explore more as we only saw the castle from afar - it was stunning, that's for sure! Typical that a guidebook should have misled you - I sometimes think the authors have never been to the places they describe.
