Things To Do: Cat Laughs
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Cat Laughs is a comedy festival which has been hosted in Kilkenny for the last 10 years. I've never actually gone as I always had exams or something else on, but judging from the crowds in the city every June it's well worth visiting. I think it's Europe's second biggest comedy festival after Edinburgh.

    Things To Do: Kyteler's Inn

  • A famous house in Kilkenny associated with the legendary Alice Kyteler. She was tried for witchcraft in medieval times but succeeded in escaping.

  • The Design Centre buildings were originally used as castle stables. Nowadays, they house design workshops. Inside, products from the workshop are sold along with expensive Irish souvenirs - there is also a nice lunch area upstairs.

    Things To Do: Butter Slip
  • Tip Rating:
  • I think this passage gets its name from the time when women used to sell butter here. The buildings on either side of the slip still retain their traditional architecture.

  • St. Mary's Cathedral dominates the skyline and is visible from most roads leading into Kilkenny city. Just one of a number of the many churches in Kilkenny.

    Kilkenny Castle: Kilkenny Castle
  • Tip Rating:
  • My mind is blanking when I think what to write about the Castle. I really should have listened in class when its history was all explained to us. I'll have to buy a guide and brush up on my history next time I'm home.

  • Visit this 13th Century Romanesque Cathedral. I sang here once during my choir days. Unlikely as it sounds, people actually came here to hear us sing. I was 10 years old at the time, memebership of the choir was compulsary, and we practiced all year for the big night in the cathdral. It could have been the beginning of somethig big, it should have made me a star; unfortuantely there was one thing holding me back: I had a crap voice.

    St Canice Cathedral: The Tower
  • Tip Rating:
  • The views from the summit of the tower in St. Canice's Cathedral are excellent. I thin you have to ask the guy in the cathedral (priest or reverand...) for the keys - it's been many years since I climbed it on a school excursion into town.

Beautiful photos! Silly question.........Is Green's Bridge the bridge shown in the film "Breakfast on Pluto"? Cillian Murphy walks over it twice I think)
