Malaga is perhaps the most attractive city on the Costa del Sol, though many visitors to the region bypass it in favour of the string of resorts along the coast. Malaga is the second biggest city in Andalucia (after Sevilla) and it has quite a Spanish feel to it despite the large numbers of tourists and expats. Attractions in the city include a nice beach close to the centre of town, the Picasso museum, celebrating Malaga's most famous son, and the Alcazaba and Castle which overlook the town and provide excellent views over the city and the surrounding areas.

Malaga was the start and end point for a 10 day trip to Andalucia in 2009. We toured around much of the region so only spent one night and two days in Malaga, but this was enough time to see the highlights of the city.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Nice beach, good climate, good choice of restaurants
  • Cons:Quite touristy and expensive compared to rest of Andalucia
  • In a nutshell:A far nicer city than I was expecting
