"Island of the Lotus Eaters" Ile de Jerba by barryg23
Ile de Jerba Travel Guide: 225 reviews and 619 photos
After spending our first two days of our Tunisia trip in Tunis, we took an internal flight to Jerba and continued our travels there. We based ourselves in Houmt Souk, and hired a car at the airport near Jerba, which allowed us see a lot of this small island.
Houmt Souk was my favourite place in Jerba. Though it seems quite commercialised, with many shops making a living from the tourist trade, the centre of town is lovely with narrow streets, interesting old fondouqs, a number of lovely mosques and even a Cathedral to see.
We also visited the old synagogue of El Ghriba, near the town of Hara Sghira. The Jewish community on Jerba is said to date from 586 BC, making it one of the oldest Jewish communities in the world outside Jerusalem.

Tunisia is a wonderful country.
Jerba was one of my favourites too - nice to see your nice pics of the fascinating architecture i loved around Jerba!
Very good tips. I had to skip parasailing in Jerba, too (my wife didn't allow me :-) but I did it a year later in Agadir, Morocco (cheaper) and it's FANTASTIC!
A great page on somewhere I know nothing about. Lovely pics. It's a shame the east coast is overrun with hideous hotel compexes.I would avoid like the plague.....
