| Nice doorways in Sidi Bou Said |
The setting is idyllic and the houses and streets are very beautiful but Sidi Bou Said is just far too touristy. I imagine 30 years ago this would have been a much nicer spot but since it's been "discovered", it's appeal has, in my opinion, greatly diminished.
Sidi Bou Said lies in a beautiful region, in the northern suburbs of Tunis, beyond the ancient ruins of Carthage, overlooking the Gulf of Tunis. It's a very popular day trip with both locals and tourists and as a consequence the town has become very visitor oriented. In a bad way. If you are luckier than us and manage to visit on a quiet day, I imagine it's a very enjoyable place to explore.
The town started as a small settlement around the tomb and Zaouia of Sidi Bou Said, a 13th century holy man. It's now the one of the most posh and most exclusive places to live in Tunisia. |

nomorewars Tue Jun 10, 2008 05:55 UTC The city appears to be a very bright, colorful, & active place. It seems as though it would be right up my alley. | jadedmuse Thu Feb 15, 2007 02:50 UTC This place looks so lovely. How disappointing to note it's now so touristy. The blue doors are stunning, I agree. | jo104 Fri Jun 16, 2006 15:30 UTC I've been here its a pretty place |
