Besancon

Looking over the city

Besancon

Unfortunately, we only got to visit Besancon for one day. Having said that, we were lucky to get here at all as we had initially planned to visit Beaune. The Beaune train was delayed by an hour, so, rather than wait around all morning in Dijon, we went to Besancon instead.

Besancon was so much nicer than I had anticipated. It's a beautiful medium-sized town of about 100,000 people in the Franche-Comte region of France. Most of the town lies at the foot of a hill surrounding, on which the stunning Citadelle stands. There was plenty to see and do here and I really wish we had more than a day's visit.

So far I've only driven though Becancon, but I hope to be able to spend some time there once. The walk and the picnic at the river look so nice.

I hope you eventually got to Beaune (you must) but the dealyed train may have done you a favour.Long time since I passed through Besancon but one of my memorable places. And I always appreciate a literary tip. Thanks for the memories.

Nice place, I'll have to see if I can drop in if I am nearby in future!

It's nice you had the chance to discover this beautiful region, often avoided by the tourists. You need to go back.
