Imlil is a small village at the foot of the Atlas mountains. It’s the last major town before the Atlas mountains and most people who plan to climb Toubkal or hike in the area pass through Imlil en route from Marrakech.
Despite it's size, Imlil has a large number of hotels and restaurants, most of which cater to hikers who stay here to acclimatise before Toubkal or before returning to Marrakech after the ascent.
If Toubkal is not your goal, there are also some excellent walks in the surrounding area. The hike to Sidi Charamouch (about 1/3 the way to Toubkal) is very popular, especially with Moroccan pilgrims, who visit the shrine. Imlil also forms part of the Toubkal Circuit, a six day hike around the mountains and you could easily do part of this circuit, perhaps from Imlil to Tacheddirt, on an overnight trip from Marrakech. |
