Colonia del Sacramento Travel Guide: 208 reviews and 580 photos
After two fantastic weeks in Buenos Aires, we left Argentina for Uruguay, and moved across the Rio de la Plata to Colonia del Sacramento, a relaxing and beautiful town, whose Barrio Historico, now a UNESCO World Heritage site, attracts tourists in big numbers.
Apart from its obvious beauty, what struck us most about Colonia was the pace of life - it seemed so much slower than Buenos Aires. It´s a fantastic place to unwind for a couple of days and is easily accessible from Buenos Aires. Many people visit Colonia on day trips from Buenos Aires, but two or three days is much better if you can spare the time.
- Pros:The old town, the cobbled streets, beautiful sunsets
- Cons:Too many tourists sometimes
- In a nutshell:A great place to relax for a few days

I am an Uruguayan from Miami, married for 33 years to an American fluent in Spanish who adores my country. Great Colonia comments! Looking forward for the Montevideo ones. (Mike also loves chivitos and Pilsen )We bought a condo in Malvin .
Looks really lovely here. You and Kay between you have got me thinking about Uruguay as a possible future destination! I'm a sucker for a good sunset too ;)
Hi, just wondering where in Colonia you managed to watch the rugby. Cheers.
have enjoyed the read and catch up of your (enviable) journey!
Seeing more mate in Colonia vs BA made sense, after I thought about it for a minute. What a great observation to share. Another gr8 set of tips. The Irish really do have a gift for gab, don't they?! p.s. the AA thing at the museum -good stuff, that!
