Beck's Brewery Tour and other Bremen, Germany General Tips

Fondest Memory: We spent only one day in Bremen and most of that time was spent at the Beck's Brewery. The tour was very interesting and we learned a lot about German purity laws, the history of Becks and how the beer was made. The best part of the tour was at the end when we got to try the beer itself. After 90 minutes of being told about beer, my mouth was watering to actually try some and we spent a nice couple of hours in the Becks bar with our complimentary beers. I'd recommend the tour to anyone interested in learning more about German beer.

It might be worth calling the brewery beforehand to check the times of the tours or to reserve a place. Our Lonely Planet guide had an incorrect start time for the tour and had the nice lady in the tourist office at Bremen station not called ahead for us we might well have missed out.

Fondest Memory: This particular beer was the nicest I tasted on my visit and also one of the best beers I've ever had. Even Ruth like it and she normally dislikes beer. Unfortunately it is only sold in Bremen and within 100 miles of the Beck's brewery so we'll have to return to try it again. Before we left the brewery I pleaded with our tour guide to get the big bosses at Beck's to sell it abroad but it hasn't happened yet.

Favorite Thing: The old town of Bremen looks lovely in the early evening. The crowds around Marketplatz have dispersed and it's much quieter around the centre and it's a great time to wander the streets. We spent a couple of hours in the early evening wandering around the streets and visiting some of the great pubs of Bremen. It was so tempting to stay on for longer but we had to return to Hamburg.
